ClickGene PIs and ESRs attend Symposium on Chemistry of Nucleic Acid Components

Most of the ClickGene PIs and ESRs will be attending the 17th Symposium on Chemistry of Nucleic Acid Components (SCNAC) in Český Krumlov, Czech Republic, held in June of this year. Last year’s event attracted more than 150 participants from 21 countries. The programme consists of 10 plenary lectures, 4 "Emerging young investigator" invited lectures, ca. 40 short oral presentations and a poster session.

Supervisor Michal Hocek to chair the symposium

Michal Hocek, supervisor of two ESRs for ClickGene, is the chairman of the SCNAC symposium. Michal’s main research areas include the chemistry of nucleobases, nucleosides, nucleotides and nucleic acids and his ESRs are studying in the area of genome editing and gene knockout.

Invited speakers

The list of invited speakers includes Thomas Carell of the Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich, Germany. Thomas is, like Michal, the supervisor of two ESRs for the ClickGene project. Additionally, he is the lead of WP1 Materials for Genome Editing. Other speakers include Cynthia Burrows from the University of Utah, Kurt Vesterager Gothelf from the Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center, Aarhus University and Andreas Marx from the University of Konstanz. The full list of plenary invited speakers is available on the SNAC website.

How to attend

The registration for the event is open and available on the SCNAC website. Due to limited capacity of the venue, the registration will be restricted to ca. 150 regular participants.

ClickGene Mid-Term Meeting

The ClickGene Mid-Term Meeting will be held from the 29th November to the 1st December in Bologna Italy. The event will consist of three thoroughly planned days:

  • On the first day the programme network meeting will be held
  • On the second day the technical review meeting will take place
  • On the final day the ESRs will be treated to a quality management workshop presented by baseclick GmbH

The ESRs will once again be busy during the Technical Review Meeting. The will each give a short presentation telling the consortium their background, their work and training experience in the network. They will also receive a short feedback on their presentations.

The location for the event will be the ISOF Institute and the EC Project officer and a technical expert will be present for the whole meeting.

This meeting follows the 2nd Annual Network Meeting that was held in Grenoble from the 25th to 27th of March.

Mid-Term Meeting this winter

Planning for the ClickGene Mid-Term Meeting is underway and progress is looking good. We will be hoping to avoid the freezing weather by holding it in Bologna, Italy from the 29th November to the 1st December. The participants are expected to arrive on the 28th November and the first day of work will start the next morning. On the first day the Programme Network Meeting will be held. This includes an update of the project status by the coordinator and updates on the individual Work Packages by their respective leaders. Following that Jeanette Müller will advise the attendees on the requirements, expectations and best practices. Before lunch the first ESRs (Early Stage Researchers) will give an update on their work progress – the other ESRs will do the same after lunch and in the afternoon. Later in the day there will be a Management Board meeting.

On the second day the Technical Review Meeting will take place. The morning and early afternoon will mainly be filled with individual reports by the ESRs and the coordinator. Later in the afternoon the fellows will be holding individual meetings with the REA and a reviewer to discuss their experience within the network.

The final day is reserved for a workshop held by baseclick GmbH. There will be more information available in the Training Programme in due time.
